Zulu Mbaye is a Senegalese painter. He was introduced to artistic practice in 1970 during the free workshops of Professor Pierre Lods, which he continued for almost a decade. At the end of the 1970s he began to make tapestry models for the Senegalese Manufactures of Decorative Arts in Thies, and at the same time he participated in the second and third editions of the Salon des Artistes Senegalais.
An active figure in the cultural sphere, between 1987 and 1989 Mbaye was president of the National Association of Plastic Artists of Senegal. He exhibited at the first Dakar Biennial in 1992, during which time he began showing his works abroad, from Buenos Aires to Baltimore. He continues to exhibit in Senegal and elsewhere, whether in solo or group exhibitions. Mbaye lives and works in Dakar.
